Bonus marks

Bonus marks are marks you get through weekly quizzes and assignments during the semester, which improve your final mark at the exams.

  • Weekly quizzes and assignments: You can take a quiz or complete an assignment usually every week. If your average score from all quizzes and assignments is equal to or higher than 80%, you get a bonus of +20% of your final exam mark.

For example: Let’s say that there are 10 quizzes / assignments during the semester and you take all of them. Your average mark from all quizzes or assigments is 85% and you get a full 20% bonus. This bonus translates into 2 points plus to the final exam mark.
If you take very few quizzes or assignments (2 or 3) or if your average score from the assignments or quizzes is under 80%, you will get a lesser bonus (e.g. 1.5 point, 0.5 point, etc.).

Note: You can choose not to do 2 quizzes/assignments OR if you choose to do all of them, the 2 quizzes/assignments with the lowest mark will not count towards your total average.

Things to remember:

  1. You don’t have to have a perfect score in each individual quiz or assignment in order to get a bonus; usually a total average of 80% or higher is enough. If your average is lower than 80%, you won’t reach the maximum bonus, but you still get one.
  2. It’s up to you to decide whether you need to take a quiz or assignment. Taking quizzes and/or assignments is not compulsory, but it is really helpful nonetheless.
