You take exams at the end of each semester in order to get promoted from one module to the next in English (e.g. from English 1 to English 2) and eventually pass the English courses at your Department (typically by succeeding in the exams on English 3).
In order to pass the English exams you have to have a score of 5 or above out of 10 AND you have to have a score equal to or over 20% on each individual part of the English exam.
Example: Let’s say the English exam paper has two parts, English language and English for mathematics, and that each part has a total score of 5 points.
If you get a score of 5 in English language and 1 in English for mathematics, your total score is 6 out of 10 and you pass the exam.
However, if you score 5 in English language and 0.5 in English for Mathematics, you will not pass the exam because your score in the English for mathematics section is below the 20% minimum required (even though the total score would be 5.5 out of 10).
